I am making all things new <\/strong><\/p> Rev 21:5<\/strong> <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The title of this year\u2019s Justice and Peace Annual Assembly (28 June \u2013 4 July 2020) was very much on my mind as I drove into Liverpool for the first time since lock down some three months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As turned from the main Waterfront\nthoroughfare to drive up Parliament Street I saw the banners denoting\nsuper-hero logs spelling out NHS on the lampposts.  I turned into St James\u2019 Place to see the Titanic\non the corner had been painted in fresh rainbow colours, a bus had the message\n\u201cstay safe, stay at home\u201d on its destination sign and along the way to Our Lady\nof Mount Carmel there were plenty of rainbows. \nI was filled with a sense of immense pride and gratitude for the way\nthat people had come together not just at grass roots level, but at municipal\nlevel to show what really mattered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On my return Black Life Matters banners\nhad been left adorning railings on Princes Avenue opposite Princes Park, and as\nI drove past the former church of St Bernard\u2019s on Kingsley Road, the bicycle\nroutes had been demarcated with red bollards to keep the traffic away \u2013\nsuddenly transport has become sustainable and care given to those using the\nroads who are more vulnerable.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The care of the Human Person seemed\nto be centre stage everywhere I looked. \nSo perhaps this is what \u201cmaking all things new\u201d looks like on the\nstreet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Liverpool J&P Annual Assembly<\/a> will be looking at eco-justice, eco-health and CAFOD\u2019s response on a global scale.  Although this form of \u201cmaking all things new\u201d may seen remote and unattainable, the grassroots networks all playing their part will make a difference.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Changes in our behaviour will cause governments to listen.  Voices raised in protest will cause statues\nto topple.  And the sanctity of our NHS\nhas never been more at the heart of our society. Making all things new may\nenable us to move to a more equal, more nurturing and more tender society with\nlove at its core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
