The Majesty of God’s creation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pope Francis as established 1 September as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, <\/em>encouraging the Catholic community around the world to pray for our common home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day is inspired by Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical Laudato Si\u2019, which calls on “every person living on this planet” to care for our shared Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He calls us all to celebrate this opportune moment to \u201creaffirm [our] personal vocation to be stewards of creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and to implore his help for the protection of creation, as well as his pardon for the sins committed against the world in which we live.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This World Day of Prayer also falls at the beginning of the Season of Creation, which runs until 4 October, the feast of St Francis of Assisi. This is an ecumenical season dedicated to prayer for the protection of creation and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles.  More information here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You founded the earth on its base,
to stand firm from age to age.
You wrapped it with the ocean like a cloak:

You make springs gush forth in the valleys:
they flow in between the hills.
On their banks dwell the birds of heaven;
from the branches they sing their song. R<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From your dwelling you water the hills;
earth drinks its fill of your gift.
You make the grass grow for the cattle
and the plants to serve people\u2019s needs. R.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How many are your works, O Lord!
In wisdom you have made them all.
The earth is full of your riches.
