And Jesus wept.
John 11:35
By Helen Jones Pastoral Associate, Liverpool South Pastoral Area
“I can’t breathe” How those words haunt us. How can tears be stone and ears be deaf when pleas are made? How deep is the hatred and distrust to solidify hearts? What happened to love?
And Jesus wept.
As the tear gas canisters are thrown to clear a square allegedly for a presidential “photo opportunity” in front of a church in Washington DC, has the tipping point finally been reached?
And Jesus wept.
As images of police guards on their knees in front of protesters, defusing situations of conflict, are circulated it is clear there is hope: hearts are open. Tears are falling. Pain is real.
And I wonder if the tears that Jesus shed then, now fall upon our earth as healing balm as collectively we, God’s children, mingle our tears with his.
Every tear brings the Messiah closer
